No matter where you are or what you are doing, dry and uncomfortable eyes can affect how much you enjoy what you’re doing. One of the most common causes of dry eyes is meibomian gland dysfunction, an eye issue that affects your tears’ quality.

Without quality tears, your eyes are left feeling irritated, watery, and red. But our team is ready to help you find the comfort you deserve! All you have to do is book an appointment, and our team can take care of the rest.

What is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)?

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) affects your meibomian glands located around the edge of your eyelids. These glands are responsible for producing the tear film‘s oil layer, which is responsible for sealing in and maintaining your tear film’s moisture.

MGD prevents these glands from producing the oils your eyes need, leading to dry eye symptoms.

Some common risk factors for developing MGD include:

  • Aging
  • Improperly fitted contact lenses
  • Wearing eye make-up
  • Environmental factors
  • Medications

Common symptoms include:

Diagnosing and Treating MGD

While dry eyes and MGD have very similar symptoms, only our team will be able to tell what is causing your discomfort. We can diagnose MGD by using a device known as LipiView, which takes detailed images of your meibomian glands and tear film.

Each one of our Reno, Lake Tahoe, Fallon, and Carson City locations have this device and can help diagnose what is causing your eye discomfort.

Also available at our Reno, Lake Tahoe, Fallon, and Carson City locations is LipiFlow, the only FDA-approved treatment for MGD!

LipiFlow uses the patented Vectored Thermal Pulsation (VTPTM) technology and a series of complex algorithms to develop heat pulsations that massage and remove blockages in your meibomian glands. The treatment is safe, comfortable, and can be repeated if you ever start to experience MGD again.

You Deserve Comfortable Vision

Don’t let MGD take control of your eye comfort! Find the help you deserve today and contact the team at EyeZone to book your appointment.
